Druk Green Power Corporation Limited (DGPC) marked a key milestone in its clean energy transition with the signing of a Contract Agreement on April 17, 2025, with a Joint Venture of Telecommunications Consultants India Limited, Smart Roof Solar Solution Pvt. Ltd., and Enerture Technologies Pvt. Ltd. The signing ceremony was held at the DGPC Corporate Office in Thimphu.

Under this contract, the Joint Venture will undertake the design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems with a total installed capacity of 7.83 MWp. The systems will be installed on 267 public buildings in Thimphu as well as DGPC infrastructure at the Basochhu and Chhukha Hydropower Plants. The project, valued at approximately Nu. 367 million, is expected to be completed within ten months.

This rooftop solar initiative is financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) through its ordinary capital resources lending to DGPC via the Royal Government of Bhutan. It represents the first of four subprojects under the Distributed Solar Project for Public Infrastructure Project (DSPIP), which aims to deploy 35 MWp of distributed solar PV systems across Bhutan by 2030. The overall program includes installations on rooftops, carports, small-scale ground-mounted platforms, and a pilot agrivoltaic system, supported by a total loan amount of USD 30 million.
The agreement was signed by Mr. Sonam Wangdi, Director of Projects and Contract Department, DGPC, and Mr. Bharat Belwal, Assistant General Manager, TCIL, on behalf of the Joint Venture. The event was witnessed by Dasho Chhewang Rinzin, Managing Director, along with members of the DGPC management team.

This project is a critical step in DGPC’s commitment to diversify Bhutan’s energy sources, in line with the Royal Government’s Renewable Energy Development Roadmap 2024. It also supports Bhutan’s enduring pledge to remain carbon-neutral while strengthening long-term national energy security and resilience.
