A public consultation meeting for the Tsephu Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Project, formerly known as the Sheytemi Solar Project, was conducted on April 11, 2025, at Chaling Primary School, Trashigang. The proposed solar farm, covering approximately 340 acres of land, is located below the Sheytemi Rhododendron Week venue and spans across three gewogs – Shongphu, Merak, and Radhi.
The meeting saw over 120 participants including Dasho Dzongdag and key sector heads of the Dzongkhag Administration, the Managing Director of DGPC, Director (Projects & Contracts), and other DGPC officials. Also present were the Lam of Radhi Namdrocholing Goenpa, Thrizin of the Trashigang Dzongkhag Tshogdu, Gups and Gewog officials from the affected areas, Forestry officials from the Trashigang Division and Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary, as well as representatives from BPC, and Gamri-I & Bamukparongchhu Hydropower Project under DHyE.
The DGPC Solar PV Project Implementation Team has already completed field surveys and investigation works. The team is collaborating with Dornier Suntrace GmbH, a solar PV consultancy firm based in Germany, to finalize the feasibility study by May 2025.
With USD 100 million in funding committed by OPEC, the project aims to achieve financial closure by June 2025, with contract awards expected by October 2025.
Preliminary assessments indicate the project will have an installed capacity of 100 MWp and an estimated cost of Nu. 6 billion.
